If you live near S.C. 905 and Old Reaves Ferry Road, this one isn't settled. Horry County Council didn't approve the development agreement at its last meeting because it wanted to hear more from the community. The Planning Commission has signed off on the rezoning, but council must approve it and the agreement.

Developer attorney Shep Guyton says the choice is the 372-home plan, with added buffers, or a plan allowing 243 homes without council approval. The land has already been sold: Summit Land Holdings, LLC bought it Sept. 29. "That tells me he's going to do Plan A or Plan B," Councilman Danny Hardee said.

Neighbors worry about traffic and flooding. A traffic analysis projects daily trips would jump by nearly 3,000, and Guyton says the agreement would put a traffic light in up front.

The buyer paid $2.5 million and has offered a package worth about $5 million

  • Offered: $5,800 per home to the county

Chef JK King earns a second Michelin nod, and nearly 800 homes are planned in Carolina Forest

If you've eaten at O.A.K. Prime on River Oaks Drive, you know the steaks. Now Michelin does too: Chef Jerrett King says the restaurant earned a Recommended designation in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide American South, announced at a Nashville ceremony on Wed., Oct. 21.

“And to be the only restaurant of over 2,000 establishments along the Grand Strand was mind-blowing.”

The Wrap

Three vacant buildings within eyesight of the ocean in downtown Myrtle Beach are being joined into a 300-seat performing arts theater, and the name will nod to the storefronts that stood there in the middle of last century. The Helen Mates dress shop, J&J Drug Co. and the Broadway Theater once filled them. Nice to see the old storefronts get a curtain call.
